We were deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of our friend and colleague Gero Kurat last week. Gero was the Director of the Mineralogy and Petrology Department of the Natural History Museum of Vienna for 35 years until his retirement in 2004. Gero served as both Vice-President (1999-2000) and President (2001-2002) of the Meteoritical Society. He is survived by his wife Frigga, his children Markus and Barbara, and their families.
Here is how we prefer to remember Gero. He will be sorely missed.
The Finnish astronomy magazine Tähdet ja avaruus (trans: Stars and Space) has published an article about the exoplanet CoRoT-7b. The article highlights calculations performed by Laura Schaefer and Bruce Fegley, which were described in a paper published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters. The article, written by Sakari Nummila, is available here.
